This FREE, one-day competition held July 9th, 2023, is for softball and baseball players, ages 7-14 for the Pitch, Hit & Run and 12 to 16 for the Jr Home Run Derby. It’s the perfect opportunity for your child to showcase their skills and compete against their peers!
Even better, winners will advance through the program for a chance to earn a week-long, all-expenses-paid trip for them and one guardian to the MLB All-Star Weekend, where the Jr. Home Run Derby National Finals will take place at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, WA.
Athletes are tested and scored in the pitch, hit, & run categories and/or the Jr HRD, and based on their scores, they can advance to a Team Championship, which are held in MLB stadiums, and then on to the National Finals, taking place during the MLB World Series.
Pitch, Hit & Run winners will be eligible to compete for the 2023 All-Star Weekend experience and winners in the Jr Home Run Derby will be eligible for 2024.

She currently serves as the Chair of both the Orange County Legislative Delegation and the Florida Legislative Energy and Climate Caucus. In the Pitch, Hit & Run program, there is both a baseball and softball division. Participants may compete in only ONE division per competition year. Bats used during the competition must be inspected prior to use. At the Regional Event they will be inspected by staff members to ensure they have the appropriate markings and do not have any cracks, dents, rattling or signs of excessive wear, and no excessive foreign substance like resin/tar.
Bats must have one of the following stamps; the USA Baseball™ stamp, BBCOR stamp or be labeled with a BPF of 1.15 or less
Below are additional guidelines per sport:
BASEBALL: • Bats cannot be greater than 34 inches in length • Bats cannot have a barrel greater than 2 5/8 inches in diameter (2 3/4 inches is NOT permissible) • Bats must have the USA Baseball™ stamp, BBCOR stamp or be labeled with a BPF of 1.15 or less
SOFTBALL: • Bats cannot be greater than 34 inches in length • Bats must be made of composite material • Bats must have the appropriate ASA/USA Softball stamp
A marker is used to set field fences at distances below:
BASEBALL: 12U – 200ft • 14U – 200ft
SOFTBALL: 14U – 150ft • 16U – 150ft
Each participant receives 25 swings OR three (3) minutes to hit as many home runs as possible, whichever comes first.
BASEBALL:
12U – 50mph, 45 feet from home plate
14U – 60mph, 45 feet from home plate.
SOFTBALL: •
14U – 45mph, 40 feet from home plate
16U – 50mph, 40 feet from home plate
Two (2) rounds where top two (2) participants in each age group from the first-round advance to the final round.
Scores are reset to zero (0) and the finalists repeat the structure from the first round.
The participant who hits the most home runs in each group during the final round will be crowned champion.
The tie-break in any round is a hit-off with 10 swings or two (2) minutes, whichever comes first.
In the event of rain, the Jr.HRD™ representatives will make the final determination as to when and where the competition will take place and reserve the right to alter/modify the rules at his/her discretion. All decisions made by the Jr.HRD™ representatives are final.
